๐ŸŒ WAFU โ€“ West African Football Union

Where Raw Talent Meets Fierce Rivalries in Africaโ€™s Football Powerhouse

๐Ÿ› About WAFU

The West African Football Union (WAFU), established in 1975, is one of the most dynamic and competitive regional bodies under the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Comprising 16 member nations, WAFU represents the heart of African football โ€” home to some of the continentโ€™s biggest talents, loudest fans, and most legendary rivalries.

Originally a single bloc, WAFU was split into two zones (A and B) to manage logistics and promote better regional competition due to the high number of active footballing nations in West Africa.

Itโ€™s no coincidence that WAFU teams dominate African football, with multiple AFCON winners and World Cup appearances.

WAFUโ€™s zonal system ensures that even lesser-known teams get competitive match experience, while its emphasis on local-based players fuels domestic leagues and player development.
